Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack left him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
