"A household based in North London wants to find an extraordinary and qualified tutor to support their smallest child on his first steps to growing into an English gentleman."
Upon seeing this post, you might readily miss the term "beginning" as just figurative language.
But, it may be the most significant aspect of this unusual position posting, as it seeks to find a tutor for a 12-month-old.
Hundreds of submissions have now been received since the anonymous family published their call for the highly paid tutor, who must be "a uniquely qualified person".
During the past few weeks, the listing has received attention in the press, with several questioning why?
Forward-Thinking Method
The CEO, CEO and founder of an education consultancy, which is assisting the family in their hunt, stated that notwithstanding initial skepticism, he found the concept "far sighted", and "progressive".
When he consulted the family, he mentioned they recognized the unusual aspect of their request, and how immature their son is.
But, they explained that they "were unwilling to delay any longer" to hire a tutor, as they had held off until their firstborn was five, and by that point "cultural bias had by then become established".
But what does the family mean by "cultural leaning"?
It's "all-encompassing", he responded. "How you eat, the way you speak".
He said the firstborn had absorbed "extremely delicate, non-verbal cues" from the family, and had assumed their cultural ways. The family told Adam they wished to avoid history to happen again with their infant.
The strategy: To bring in a British tutor, who should speak with standard English accent, to influence the baby right from the beginning.
Osmotic Learning
"A great deal of the learning at the start here is kind of acquired indirectly," said the expert.
It's via this natural absorption that the family are expecting the child will pick up the English characteristics they want to cultivate.
He explained the tutor had to be someone who attended "the right kinds of schools – similar types of schools as the family aspire to send their son to".
"The instructor must be the appropriate candidate, they'll be doing things they don't even know they're doing, just naturally," he said.
Money No Object
The family told Adam the selected educator should preferably also have knowledge of or enthusiasm in equestrian activities, skiing, creative fields and music so as to inspire the child in a broad spectrum of hobbies.
Additionally though, he stated the family desired the tutor to enrol the child on a selection of classes so the child would be "pony-riding and picking up an tool by the time they are approximately three years old".
In the family's perspective, helping their son become a "English gentleman" will lead to achievement and create opportunities.
"For all the rights and wrongs of that, because it's undoubtedly a social class indicator," he comments.
Yet, despite all this instruction in "UK identity", would the child pick up so-called cultural leaning from the international family he is raised by in any case?
"Yes", said Adam. "The family know this may not work, but they've just taken the view of, 'we should try and we should start as soon as we can', because the cost of it is not a concern," he stated.
Overly Optimistic
Several in the education sector who have those doubts.
Another CEO, CEO and founder of a tutoring service, who also offer private tutors, stated that "the journey of becoming bicultural, or in fact, discovering oneself, is something that must be grown into, not manufactured."
Peter noted that he had emigrated from the Far East to the United Kingdom at the age of seven, and had been educated understanding and embodying both cultures. He continued to be educated at the University of Cambridge.
"The notion that one individual can act as a representation of Britishness, an individual who can possibly transplant the qualities of a English gentleman onto a infant child, appears naive and impractical," he commented.
"From my perspective, engaging a quintessentially British tutor from infancy will not automatically create the goal they want.
"I never had such a figure, and however I have been lucky enough to live several of the opportunities they aspire for their son."
He continued: "The truth is, cultural identity cannot be imposed from the external environment; it must be selected, and it must be internally driven."
Purchasing UK Culture
Certainly, UK identity is something the CEO hopes can be instructed – and commercialized.
"I think the fact that the global community holds us in this regard is something that we should be cherishing|valuing|appreciating
